Wandering: sometimes, it’s a family affair

4 February 2025

From thieving wombats to performing the Lion King in the Flinders Ranges, these wanderers share the best bits of their Aussie trips.

Meet the Tyler Family

No. of years camping:
As a family, we’ve been camping for about 5 years.

The first time I went camping was…
Wilsons Promontory.

First thing you do once you’ve set up ‘camp’ ?
Check out the place

The last time I followed my wanderer I ended up…
With a bunch of friends performing ‘The Lion King’ in the Flinders Ranges!

If I had to pick one crazy camping story it would be the time …
A wombat broke into our friends’ tent and ate their tacos.

The best thing about camping is…
(That) you get to explore and there are lots of things to do. (We) love when it’s raining, and you can see and hear the raindrops hitting the tent; having to improvise solutions for all the things you left behind and being totally immersed in nature.

My must-have gear when hitting the road include…
Vegemite
Paints
Pickle Ball set

The top three road trips on my wanderer’s bucket list are…
Glenelg River kayaking trip
Kangaroo Island
Darwin to Broome

To my fellow wanderers out there, you absolutely, definitely have to visit…
Wilson’s Promontory
